I Almost Forgot

Today marks the 144th anniversary of the Battle of New Market. My great-great grandfather, John McGann fought for the 51st Virginia Infantry. The 51st earned a reputation as a brave and hard-fighting unit and led the charge at New Market. This victory saved the Shenandoah Valley and the Confederacy for another year.

I thought I had read of a Col. John Patton in relation to New Market. Does that sound right?
