Folkways of Ancestors

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I, along with some of our children, their spouses, and many of our grandchildren; gathered at my home to make apple butter--a tradition that goes back generations in many Virginia families. We made over 40 quarts from 3 bushels of Virginia grown apples! The process begins early in the morning and lasts most of the day. Use a copper kettle over an open fire, throw in a few pennies to help keep the stirrer and apples from sticking to the bottom and burning, and then enjoy the fruits of your labor on hot butter biscuits! Here are just a few pics from the event.

That looks like great fun! Hopefully, when I move there, I can do such things as well!
