Had the Right prevailed in the WBTS, Sherman, Sheridan, Hunter and others, not Major Wirz, would have climbed the gallows.
I have relatives who have passed down oral tradition regarding Sherman's bummers taking every piece of food available and finding meat that was buried in the woods. They left everyone to starve. This was around the Bentonville, NC area. Truly brutal warfare.
