Anti-Intellectuals Rule (The Book Market)

I've recently been accused of being an "anti-intellectual." Actually, anti-elitist would be more accurate, but accuracy is a little too much to expect from some. Anyway, Sister Sarah (Palin) was also accused of the same thing over at History News Network a while back. Nothing new here, elites are known for their sneering attitude toward "them thar huntin', fishin', rural types." So it was all the more interesting to read of the recent astounding news regarding Mrs. Palin's new book:

A publishing industry source told POLITICO that they “cannot remember a non-fiction book taking off like this in the pre-order market. It became number one only a couple of hours after nothing more than a date announcement. It is truly unprecedented.”

Already #1 at Amazon as this post is going up. Wow. Anti-intellectuals can read?! I'll betcha Mrs. Palin promotes American exceptionalism in her book. Story here.

I am sure this book will be a big hit with those who support her and believe in her for the future.

But what I cannot help but always thinking about and this will be beaten to death if she runs in 2012...is that she Quite! She was elected to a position in Alaska and when the thing got tough...regardless...she Quite.

I'm sure I am going to be told I am just reading out of the old playbook...but She Quite!

I'm not trying to be disrespectful here, but how do you square Sister Sarah (and American exceptionalism) with Proverbs? Pride goes before destruction; The Lord detests all proud of heart. Like I said, I'm not trying to mock, just genuinely curious why don't see these parts of the Bible as Orthodox Christian faith.

Actually, you're just parroting the left's talking points. And I believe the word you want is "quit", not "quite."

Anon:

Sarah Palin is/was not my preferable candidate. As you know, there was quite a debate in Christian circles about her candidacy and whether or not a mother of 5 has higher priorities. That being said, she is, nonetheless, everything the left hates. We can judge quite a bit by a person's enemies. Her book numbers are also astounding, especially when one considers how she's been vilified by the left.
