Real Men Have Heroes

"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.” ~ C.S. Lewis (The Abolition of Man)

Honoring heroes, affirming American Exceptionalism, and celebrating our history is a constant theme here at OVB. Some time ago, someone commented here that "heroes are for children." How utterly self-absorbed. That comment actually reveals a very insecure and immature attitude. The video below shows some commentary by a 91 year old Pearl Harbor veteran who mentions who his heroes are. He cut off one of his fingers so he could join the Navy. He lived through Pearl Harbor and WWII. He fought to defend our liberties, yet at 91, he still has heroes. A good lesson for the petulant, self-absorbed modern to learn.

If I had never contributed anything selflessly, I too would think that heroes were for children.

This blog feels more like a nursing home everyday...

Thanks Michael. You continue to confirm my opinions about your perspective.

Michael - have you ever considered what this nation might be like were it not for the sacrifice of many of those in nursing homes? You sound quite unappreciative of the generations that have gone before - typical modern.

Richard my comment was in regards to your perspectives being antiquated. I have no issues with our vets and am VERY thankful for their service.

Michael - this post was about a 91 year old man discussing his experience in the U.S Navy, it was not about my "perspectives." You seem to be walking it back now. Do you wish to retract? Besides, as I pointed out in the AE post, that perspective is still a majority view in America. It's your views on AE that are out of the mainstream. "Antiquated" is the norm when it comes to AE.

Wrong again.
