Another Courthouse In Virginia Removes That Offensive Flag

No, not that flag, this one:

Those of us outside the faddish, trendy world of "activist historians" and "moral critics" knew this was coming. No surprise, just disgust. By the way, have you noticed that all the Confederate Battle Flag bashers are eerily silent on the growing assault on, and demands for removing, Old Glory? Hmmm . . . Are they cowards or complicit?

I started to comment "unbelievable..." but not really that unbelievable these days. Instead I will say "sad..."

Surreal, isn't it?

In the words of the sheriff, "it's the most asinine thing he's ever heard in his life." Like the first commenter noted, it is truly sad.

It's the whole "enemy of American Exceptionalism", "we are the world" mindset. It's so "uncool" to be patriotic.

Makes me want to puke.

I think many of them are quietly cheering the assault on the American flag as well.

It's not an either/or proposition, they're both, and more: they're little iconoclasts, mindless pipsqueaks motivated by the same perverted impulses (albeit on a much smaller and less dangerous scale for now) that drove the Vandals to vandalize Rome.

It's the American political Left's version the same intolerant hatred that persuaded Mao's Red Guards to destroy China's priceless cultural treasures so that the poverty of Mao's brand of Communism wouldn't look bankrupt compared to the glorious accomplishments of past dynasties.

And, it's the same petty perversion that drives today's Islamic fundamentalists to dynamite monumental sculpture and to destroy museum treasures in an effort to deny the magnificent civilizations of the fertile crescent before the coming of Muhammad.

Now, that our own cultural vandals have become so heady with success driving Ol' Dixie down they're sufficiently emboldened to start driving Old Glory from the public square too. Our Constitutional rights are already under attack, so what's next?

Will they try to remove the Washington monument or the Jefferson Memorial in the name of progress?

Yes, they are quite intolerant, aren't they? Not to mention stupid.

Rick is there a point in time, an event in our history, that we can look at and say " that was when Americans started hating America...?" This all boils down to some deep seeded hatred that used to be called "Un-American." A post from you on this would be very interesting. Forgive me if you have already done so and point me to it...

Chris - I think most would agree that this mindset became more prevalent during the radicalism of the 1960's. It's way too deep a topic for a blog post here, but there are a number of essays, books, and studies on the topic.

Often christened the "New Left", it's roots are in Marxism.
